The Penguins finally gave their new head coach, Mike Sullivan, his first win behind their bench, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2. After starting 0-4, Sullivan will finally celebrate his first win as the Pittsburgh Penguins' head coach.

Pittsburgh snapped a 5 game losing streak in the process.

Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel had two goals each for the steel city. Goaltender Matt Murray stopped 22 shots to earn his first NHL win.

The Penguins played without captain Sidney Crosby for the first this season, out with a lower-body injury.

The game was also marked with an ugly incident, when Columbus' Boone Jenner hit Pens' forward Evgeni Malkin with a knee-on-knee check. Malkin proved to be fine and added an empty-net goal to seal the deal.
