The Pittsburgh Penguins have been unable to solve the problem known as the Philadelphia Flyers through the first 3 games of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series, and now desperation has set in.

The Penguins are making a desperation move with their season now hanging in the balance, taking goaltender Stuart Skinner out of the net and replacing him with Arturs Silovs for Game 4 on Saturday.

The Penguins have been thoroughly outplayed by the Flyers through the first 3 games of the series and I think you would be hard pressed to lay the blame for all, or even most, of that at Skinner's feet. While Skinner certainly could have been better, he currently boasts a 3.08 goals against average and .873 save percentage over the first 3 games of the series, this feels like Dan Muse trying to provide a jolt to his team at a desperate time rather than an indictment of Skinner himself as a player.

That being said Skinner has had his issues in the Stanley Cup playoffs before, even losing his job to career backup Calvin Pickard during his time with the Edmonton Oilers, and it may very well be that Dan Muse has come to believe that Silovs gives his team the best chance to win today.
