The Pittsburgh Penguins have made what will come as a major change to long time fans of their broadcasts on both television and radio.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Mike Rupp has served as a key figure in the Penguins television broadcasts in recent years, but on Monday Rupp confirmed that the team had made the decision to go in another direction. Speaking with the Penguins reporter Matt Vensel, Rupp confirmed his departure in a very classy message,

"I had a blast being in the booth with Josh [Getzoff] calling Penguin games," confirmed Rupp on Monday via a text message to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “It was a great experience."

Colby Armstrong and Phil Bourque will now take over the duties of color commentary alongside the aforementioned Josh Getzoff, but this in turn could have an impact on other aspects of the Penguins broadcast as well. Bourque was a major part of the Penguins radio broadcast and an increased role on television will leave a void that will need to be filled on the radio side of things. At the time of this writing, no official announcement has been made in regard to what that might look like come the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season.

Rupp played two seasons as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 NHL season. He appeared in a total of 162 games, scoring 22 goals and adding 14 assists for a total of 36 points over his career in Pittsburgh.

Rupp also currently serves as an analyst with the NHL Network, a role that he will remain in moving forward.
