The Pittsburgh Penguins have chosen their guy... at least for now.

On Saturday, Penguins head coach Dan Muse officially confirmed that goaltender Stuart Skinner would get the start for Game 1 of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers.

It was going to be a tough choice no matter what for Muse who hasn't exactly received excellent goaltending from any of his available options this season. Skinner, who was acquired by the Penguins in a mid-season trade with the Edmonton Oilers, recorded a 2.99 goals against average and a .885 save percentage over 27 games with the Penguins this season, not exactly numbers that inspire confidence in a starting goaltender come playoff time. In fact Skinner's 2.83 goals against average and .891 save percentage over 23 games with the Edmonton Oilers was enough to get him traded mid season.

Arturs Silolvs on the other hand had arguably an even worse season with a 3.04 goals against average and a .888 save percentage over 39 games with the Penguins this season.

Skinner has also backstopped the Edmonton Oilers to back to back Stanley Cup Finals, giving him a wealth of playoff experience in the process. Keeping all of that in mind I can see why Muse made the decision to go with the more experienced netminder for Game 1 of a series that could very well renew a long standing rivalry between the Penguins and their intrastate rivals.

Did Muse make the right choice? Let me know your thoughts on Skinner getting the nod in the comments.
