The Penguins have reportedly brought a former player to Pittsburgh. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Penguins acquired forward Nick Bonino from the San Jose Sharks late in the night.

The full details later came on and is the following per Pierre LeBrun: the Sharks get a 5thRD pick and 7thRD pick for Bonino and flip 5thRD pick to third team broker. 

Bonino is in the final year of a two-year contract with a a salary cap hit of $2.05 million. 

This is a return to Pittsburgh for Bonino, who was part of the Penguins’ two Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017. It was in July 2015 that the Penguins originally acquired Bonino through a trade with the Vancouver Canucks in July of 2015. In his first two seasons with the Penguins (2015-16 and 2016-17), Bonino appeared in 143 games and scored 66 points (27 goals, 39 assists).

Bonino has played in 59 games this season and has recorded 10 goals and 19 points.
