Have the Flyers screwed over the Penguins in a trade?
A bizarre situation is developing in Pittsburgh, one that leaves far more questions than it answers.
On Saturday, news broke that the Pittsburgh Penguins were suspending defenseman Egor Zamula. Now a player being suspended by his team isn't the most unusual thing to happen in the National Hockey League but what makes this one particularly odd is that Zamula was acquired by the Penguins in a trade only a few days earlier.
The Penguins acquired Zamula in a deal with their intrastate rivals the Philadelphia Flyers, giving up now former Penguins forward Philip Tomasino to do so.
It sounds like this may turn into more of a serious issue for the Penguins as well with American Hockey League insider Tony Androckitis reporting that Zamula has refused to report to the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins, the AHL affiliate team of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Zamula does have NHL experience under his belt and in fact has played a significant role for the Flyers prior to being traded. Zamula only appeared in 13 regular season games for the Flyers prior to being traded this season but had a combined 129 games at the NHL level with the Flyers over the 2 previous seasons.
This may be simply be a case of a player refusing to report to the AHL because he believes himself to be an NHL-level player, but either way this is quickly turning into a big headache for the Penguins.
Zamula has 168 games of total NHL experience, all of which have come with the Flyers, and has 8 career goals and 33 career assists for a career total of 41 points in the NHL.
