The Pittsburgh Penguins are awaiting to see if Tristan Jarry departs as a free agent on July 1. While it would be an important loss for the Penguins, who are still looking for their next GM, there are rumours that Pittsburgh might already have a name in mind to take over the net next season.

According to Nick Horvat of the Hockey News, the Penguins should consider the Winnipeg Jets as a possible trade partner to shake things up by acquiring goalie Connor Hellebuyck.

In his exit interview, Hellebuyck mentioned how he was not interested in staying in Winnipeg if a rebuild takes place. The goalie could therefore be interested in a move to Pittsburgh for another shot at the championship with Sidney Crosby in tow. Hellebuyck has a year left on his contract worth an annual cap hit of $6.16 million, but would be worth the move for Pittsburgh.

There were previous talks that the Penguins could look to trade for Anaheim Ducks’ Jon Gibson, though both Horvat and Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now believe Hellebuyck would be a better choice. Kingerski suggests the Jets could be open to a player-for-player trade. However, the Penguins might face some tough negotiating with one of their better players to waive their no-trade or no-movement clauses.

If Hellebuyck is available on the trade market and the Penguins strike first, we could have a significant addition in net in Pittsburgh this summer.
