Fans also noticed he missed last night’s game and why he was rushed to the hospital on the Penguins’ road trip.
On Tuesday evening, a scary scene took place in Anaheim where the Pittsburgh Penguins were facing the Ducks when Pens television play-by-play man Josh Getzoff fainted in the Honda Center press box and had to be taken to the local hospital during the second intermission.
We finally got more details on what happened when Getzoff left the SportsNet Pittsburgh broadcast booth between periods, which is common. He was in the middle of a conversation with another broadcaster when he passed out. He was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
Getzoff has since provided an update on his health as he also missed the Penguins’ game against the Kings in Los Angeles.
“I want to thank everyone for reaching out after what happened on Tuesday night. My family & I are overwhelmed by your support and so appreciative of your kind words. Big thanks to the first responders at Honda Center & the great doctors & nurses at UCI. I am feeling good, & am eager to get back in the booth soon!”
Getzoff, a Pennsylvania native, recently celebrated his 10-year anniversary as a broadcaster for the Penguins. This is his third season as the TV play-by-play man for SportsNet Pittsburgh. Prior to that, Getzoff called the Penguins’ games on the radio.
Pittsburgh still has a game out in California as the Penguins face the Sharks in San Jose on Saturday before returning home to host the Canucks on Oct. 21.
