Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz left last night’s 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers in the first period with an apparent lower body injury. He did make a return to the ice briefly in the second period, but was shut down for the evening shortly after.

Head coach Mike Sullivan offered up an update post-game and, hold your breath Pens fans, it’s not good.

This is the second injury to Schultz so far this season after missing time with a concussion in early November. The 27-year-old blue liner has two goals and 10 points in 23 games this season, following a career high 12 goals and 51 points in 2016-17.
