Pens’ Murray makes classy move to rival goalie Markstrom before the game

Wow! So unexpected, but very touching.

The Pittsburgh Penguins completed an impressive comeback on Wednesday night to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 8-6, and it seems like karma might have had a role in that story.

During the warmups before the game started, Penguins starting goalie Matt Murray stopped his preparation to come over and chat with Canucks netminder Jacob Markstrom.

It was important for Murray, he wanted to show Markstrom his support, he who lost his father Anders, who lost his fight with cancer two weeks ago in Sweden.

Murray knows what the 29-year-old is going through: last season, the Penguins goalie lost his father unexpectedly. He wanted to give Markstrom some well wishes.

That’s just great class. Sure, players can be foes on the ice but they can also remain friends before the first whistle.

Very moving to see.
