He'll be coaching his 5th NHL squad.

The Dallas Stars may have overachieved in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, taking the Pacific Division champion Calgary Flames to overtime of Game 7 in their opening round series largely thanks in part to the heroics in net of young goaltender Jake Oettinger.

After the loss, 67 year old bench boss Rick Bowness announced that he would be stepping aside in order to, as he put it, "allow the organization the opportunity to pursue a different direction at the head coaching position."

The Stars now have their man as his replacement. Peter DeBoer, who most recently served as head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights before being terminated at the end of the 2021-22 regular season, has officially been hired as the 25th coach in team history.

According to Daily Faceoff, his deal with the Stars will see him be paid $4.25 million per season over four years.

"Pete brings a wealth of experience to our dressing room, and we're thrilled to name him our next head coach," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "Every team that he has taken over has not only shown immediate improvement but has been ultra-competitive in the Stanley Cup playoffs. His resume displays the high standards he sets and his ability to get his team to play up to that level consistently. We're excited to welcome Pete and his family to Dallas."

This will be the 5th NHL team that DeBoer has coached, as he's spent time with the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Golden Knights. He led the Devils to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final, followed by an appearance in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final with the Sharks.

"Over the last few seasons, I have seen firsthand what the Stars are building with a mix of dynamic young players and established leaders," DeBoer said. "The chance to become this team's next head coach was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I would like to thank Tom Gaglardi and Jim Nill for the chance to help guide this team as we work together to bring another Stanley Cup to Dallas."

In 1,015 regular season games, DeBoer boasts a record of 513-379-123. Meanwhile in the postseason, he's 68-55.
