Peter Laviolette shares huge update on Kaapo Kakko.

The New York Rangers have had a bit of a rough go of things over the past several days with the team suffering 4 consecutive losses and hoping to avoid making that a 5th straight loss as they take on the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

The Rangers did get some good news ahead of the game however when Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette confirmed that former 2nd overall pick Kaapo Kakko would be making his return to the lineup.

Kakko has been out of the lineup since November when he was injured in a game against the Buffalo Sabres after Kakko was tangled up with the Sabres' Eric Johnson and fell awkwardly into the end boards, injuring himself in the process. 

Kakko wasn't having the best season prior to his injury with just 2 goals and a single assist for a ttoal of 3 points in his first 20 games of the regular season, and one can only hope that the extra time off has rejuvinated both his body and his motivation.

In order for Kakko to slot back into the lineup there will necessarily be a player who must sit today, but when pressed on that decision Laviolette refused to answer. Rangers insider Mollie Walker speculates that Anton Blidh is likely the odd man out, but we will have to wait until puck drop to know officially.
