Pierre-Luc Dubois’ contract demands are out and they are OVER THE TOP!

He wants out of Winnipeg and now he wants this type of contract? Anything else, sir?

On Wednesday, insider Pierre LeBrun reported that Pierre-Luc Dubois’ agent Pat Brisson had informed the Winnipeg Jets about his client’s attentions as the forward is reportedly not even inclined to sign an extension, not even a one-year bridge deal this offseason. This quickly led to trade rumours as Dubois has already been linked to the Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers.

But, but, BUT… Reports have emerged that Dubois is seeking a contract in the $9M AAV range, according to Arpon Basu and Marc-Antoine Godin of The Athletic.

We’re talking the type of contract that Matthew Tkachuk signed with the Florida Panthers last summer! And let’s say they don’t really compare in terms of performances on the ice… I get that the Jets are better off finding a willing party to negotiate an eight-year extension, and then complete the sign and trade, but that’s a hefty contract.

Dubois is scheduled to become a restricted free agent for the last time in his career in July. He scored 27 goals and recorded a career-high 36 assists in 73 games last season, earning $6 million on a one-year deal. Is that worth $9 million yearly?
