Does he have a point?

Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas raised more than a few eyebrows when he decided to re-sign goaltender Tristan Jarry for another five seasons to the tune of $26.875 million. This came on the heels of them being linked to Pittsburgh native John Gibson, who has essentially demanded out of Anaheim.

“This just felt like the right mixture [of term and salary],” Dubas said, “the right fit.”

Don't tell that to 93.7 The Fan host Andrew Filliponi during a recent show. He went so far as to compare it to the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers using a 1st round draft selection on Najee Harris, who had an underwhelming rookie season in 2022.

"It's the most aggravated and angered I have been by a team's move in this town since the Steelers used a first-round pick on Najee [Harris]," Filliponi said. "Because all I heard then was don't use first-round picks on running backs. They're not durable. They don't last. You can find running backs anywhere. And all of that was right. And then for two weeks, I heard the same conversation about goalies, based on what people believed Kyle Dubas believed in."

"You've now attached yourself to a goalie who's not durable and hasn't come through in big games for a half-decade for a decent price," Filliponi continued.

The Penguins have won exactly zero playoff series since Jarry took over the reigns of starting goaltender. Joining Jarry in the crease is former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, whom Dubas also signed.
