While there are several brand new players on the Detroit Red Wings for the upcoming 2023-24 season, one player who is now an unrestricted free agent and will not be back for next year has been decided.
Pius Suter, who was inked to a two-year contract after coming over from the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021, won't be back with the team this fall. His jersey No. 24 is now being worn by newcomer Klim Kostin, effectively confirming that he'll soon be playing elsewhere.
Suter had an effective first year with Detroit, scoring 15 goals with 21 assists in 2021-22. His production would dip a bit to 24 points last season.
He'll be an effective penalty killer in a bottom-six role wherever he plays next season.
