Recently retired NHL defenseman PK Subban has signed a three year contract with sports broadcasting giant ESPN. The network made the announcement themselves, stating that Subban has signed a three year agreement and will serve mostly as an in-studio analyst for games.

"P.K. brings a fresh perspective to his analysis, having recently retired from the game, but he also draws on much more than just his experience on the ice, which gives him a unique, fun perspective that fans will love," ESPN vice president Gross said in a prepared statement.

"I've known for a few weeks now. It's been tough to have known what I was going to do that and just kind of keep it close to the chest. But I'm excited now that we're now here," Subban said in the same statement. "I had done some work last postseason and it was great. I enjoyed working with the producers and everybody."

"I'm excited to bring that passion and that energy that I brought on the ice to something else that I'm passionate about. I hope that they're just as excited as I am to get started," he said. "The people that follow and know me know that I keep honest. I'm going to be myself, and hopefully that's what they want to see. I think that's what people are excited about."

I think most people were surprised when Subban made the decision to retire this past offseason at just 33 years old, but I don't think many people will be surprised with today's news. Subban has proven himself to be a talent in front of the camera throughout the course of his NHL career and it's always been speculated that he would eventually join hockey media once his playing days were over. For me though, I had just hoped I'd get to see him get one last shot at a Stanley Cup playing on a contender to close out his career. As it is, he has just one trip to the Stanley Cup Final whne his Nashville Predators lost out to the Pittsburgh Penguins. That's as close as Subban ever came, but he did end his career with a very respectable 115 goals and 467 points in 834 career games.
