Player Safety comes down on Max Domi for hit at end of Game 4.
NHL Player Safety comes down on Max Domi for his hit on Aleksander Barkov at the end of Game 4.
There were those who were calling for Toronto Maple Leaf Max Domi to face a suspension for a dangerous hit he delivered to Florida Panthers star Aleksander Barkov at the end of Game 4, but the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has announced that it will not suspended Max Domi, at least not for this hit.
On Monday, the disciplinary arm of the NHL announced that Domi would be punished for the infraction but that punishment will come in the form of a $5,000 fine which is the maximum allowable amount under the current rules of the collective bargaining agreement. That means that Domi won't miss any games and will be back out on the ice with his teammates when Game 5 rolls around on Wednesday.
There's no question that it was a dangerous hit on the part of Domi who drilled Barkov from behind while he was very close to the boards, sending the Panthers star head first towards the boards as a result of the hit. That combined with the fact that it came at the very end of the game led some to believe that this should rise to the level of a suspension, but it is clear that the NHL did not agree.
