Player Safety rules on Evander Kane's hit to Jonas Brodin.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety has made it's decision regarding a dangerous hit on Friday night.
The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has reportedly reviewed the controversial hit delivered on Friday night by Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane to Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin.
According to comments from Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo on Saturday morning, it would appear as though there will be no supplemental discipline forthcoming for Kane following a hit that left Brodin injured and unable to continue the game. Russo reports that, due to the fact that Brodin shoulder checked and made no effort to protect himself, there will be no suspension forthcoming for Kane as a result of this hit.
This likely won't sit well with fans in Minnesota who have just recently witnessed their team bouncing back under newly appointed head coach John Hynes, a bounce back that Brodin himself played a significant role in. That will only be amplified by the fact that Kane wasn't even awarded a penalty on the play, with the retaliation from Wild forward Ryan Hartman actually resulting in a power play for Kane and the Oilers.
Brodin has appeared in 25 games for the Wild this season and has 1 goal and 8 assists to his name for a total of 9 points, currently boasting a plus minus rating of +7 on the season.
