NHL Player Safety comes down on Logan Stanley.
The Winnipeg Jets will have to play their next game without the services of veteran defenseman Logan Stanley.
On Sunday, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety officially announced that, following a hearing, they would be suspending Stanley for 1 game under the league's roughing rule. Stanley was involved in an incident on Saturday night that can only be described as a sucker punch to the face of Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, and I don't think there's much argument to be made about this warranting a suspension.
It all started when Tkachuk delivered a hit to Stanley in front of the Senators bench, a hit that led to some pushing and shoving between the two men. Stanley dropped his gloves but the two men were separated by an NHL official before a single punch was thrown, although Stanley still had ill intent on his mind.
Despite the fact that there was an official standing between them, Stanley delivered a blatant sucker punch to the face of Tkachuk after the Ottawa captain turned to look away. Here is a look at the replay of the incident:
Tkachuk and the Senators were furious at the gesture and it comes as no surprise to me that the league has chosen to suspend Stanley for this gesutre.
