The Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres were forced to return to the ice after a game winning goal was overturned.
This will likely be a game that neither the Buffalo Sabres or the Edmonton Oilers are soon to forget, albeit for opposite reasons.
On Saturday, we were treated to a bizarre scene in the National Hockey League when the Oilers and Sabres were forced to resume a game after both teams had already left the ice.
The incident occurred after a game winning goal from Owen Power in overtime, one that seemingly put the game away for the Buffalo Sabres, was overturned due to an offside challenge.
Unfortunately upon further review it was determined that the Sabres had been offside prior to the goal being scored, and as per NHL rules the goal was overturned and the game was back on.
It would matter very little in the end as the Sabres would win the game for a second time in the shootout, which unfortunately also meant that the Oilers were treated to the bitter taste of defeat for the second time in the day as well.
