The Flyers are still in the hunt for a playoff spot and help has just arrived.
The Philadelphia Flyers have started to make things very interesting down the final stretch of the regular season and a big win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night has once again placed them within striking distance of a spot in the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Flyers currently have 84 points to their name which leaves them 3 points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets and 4 points back of the Boston Bruins for the final 2 Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference. While it remains a longshot for the Flyers to make the playoffs at this stage, they will be getting a huge boost to their lineup this week that could help turn the tide.
On Sunday morning, Flyers reporter Jamey Baskow took to social media and all but confirmed that former first round draft pick (6th overall) Porter Martone is set to join the Flyers in only just a few short days. According to Baskow, the expectation is that Martone will quickly sign his entry level contract and immediately join the Flyers now that his season with Michigan State University has come to an end. In fact Baskow has even added that he expects Martone's debut will come this Tuesday when the Flyers face off against the Washington Capitals.
There has been a ton of hype around Martone since even prior to him being drafted and his most recent season with Michigan State University has only added to that hype. Martone had 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in just 35 games with Michigan State University this season, and he is no doubt hoping he can continue to carry that success over at the NHL level.
