Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun remains a top bait on the trade board ahead of the March 3rd deadline. The fact remains that general manager Bill Armstrong is willing to be patient with his blue liner and could wait to receive the high asking price of two first-round picks plus a prospect.

However, Pierre LeBrun believes the GM could be tempted by another possible offer is it is made by the right team. The insider believes the Coyotes would be willing to be flexible regarding the quality of the prospect.

“The Coyotes remain patient on the Chychrun trade front, because well, they don’t actually have to move him before March 3. He’s signed for another two years after this season. But the desire is still there to move him for the right price. Speaking of which, while the price generally remains two first-round picks plus a prospect in exchange for Chychrun, I’m told the Coyotes are willing to be flexible depending on the quality of the prospect, for example. So there appears to be another avenue to make a deal happen, but the assets offered would have to equal the original asking price in the eyes of Arizona,” LeBrun explained on Wednesday.

According to Lyle Richardson, there is also talk that Arizona could accept a first-round pick plus a former first-round pick. The quality of the latter, however, will still have to be high.

Interested teams are likely to wait closer to the March 3rd trade deadline to pull the trigger on a blockbuster move for Chychrun, especially to make sure he remains healthy and productive.

A few teams have been linked to the young defenseman, especially the Edmonton Oilers who need to fill the void on the back end and help an overworked Darnell Nurse.

However, for interested parties, Chychrun is under contract through 2024-25 at $4.6 million annually and the tight cap hit makes it almost certain that money will need to be shed in some ways to make room for the rearguard.

It has been reported that the Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators have been scouting Coyotes’ games lately.

Let’s see if LeBrun pointing to different options entices more teams to get in the mix ahead of the deadline.
