We all remember on Dec, 2, 1995 when Montreal Canadiens star goalie Patrick Roy told then-head coach Mario Tremblay that he had played his last game for the team. Days later, he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche.

Pierre LeBrun hinted last night - on Dec, 2, 2021, 26 years to the day - at the possibility of Carey Price being traded by the Canadiens. Earlier this week, the insider wondered if a blockbuster trade involving Price, who has yet to skate with his teammates since his return to the team on Nov. 8 after spending 30 days in the NHL/NHLPA’s Player Assistance Program for treatment related to a substance use issue, could take place with Jeff Gorton taking over at the helm of the club.

What might have hurt Habs’ fans - besides the evil date - if the fact that LeBrun suggested the Avalanche could pull the move to acquire Price if the Canadiens choose to undergo a rebuild and make blockbuster moves closer to the deadline.

Price to the Avalanche brought up on Dec, 2 - that’s just too much to handle.

There is no doubt that Price could be an intriguing trade chip for Gorton, especially if he wants nothing to do with a rebuild at 34 years old.

The 2021 Stanley Cup Final was likely the only opportunity Price had to win a championship in a Canadiens uniform, and might want the chance to do so - with any club - before he hangs up the pads. The Avalanche, a strong contender for the past few seasons, could make it happen for him. Colorado lost Philipp Grubauer to the Seattle Kraken before the start of the season, and needs a strong goalie to ensure a championship. Defenseman Samuel Girard, who's been rumoured to be on the trade block, could possibly interest the Canadiens as part of a return package.

LeBrun only wondered about the possibility, and while it brought back painful memories to Habs’ fans, you have to admit, it makes sense, especially if Gorton chooses to rebuild the Canadiens.
