Potential terms of new MacKenzie Weegar deal revealed
Will he be in Calgary long term?
HockeyFeed
The hockey world was absolutely set ablaze (no pun) late last month when the Calgary Flames acquired both Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar from the Florida Panthers in exchange for gritty and scoring forward Matthew Tkachuk; the latter was immediately inked to a massive contract extension by the Panthers, and it wasn't long before Huberdeau followed suit and signed long term with his new team as well.
Meanwhile, Weegar himself will be in need of a new contract after this season ends. Does he figure into the long-term plans of the Flames alongside Huberdeau and the recently-signed Nazem Kadri? And if so, what kind of deal could be expect to be presented to him by the Flames?
According to Ryan Pike of Flames Nation, don't be surprised to see a deal offered in the neighborhood of $6-7 million per season.
"I think something in the high 6's or low 7's would be a pretty decent place to start," he said. "I think that frames a conversation in a really useful way."
The 28 year old Weegar, who was selected by the Panthers with the 206th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, has scored 27 goals with 94 assists in 306 career games, all while wearing a Florida uniform.
