Poor Mitch…
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was called out by head coach Sheldon Keefe earlier this season for their inconsistency and even benched during the game against Anaheim on Sunday, following two blunders which directly led to two Ducks goals.
Marner however did mention that the benching would rattle his confidence, but fans quickly saw otherwise during Wednesday night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
During the first minutes following puck drop in Toronto, Marner was caught making a pass to a stickless Justin Holl who had skated to the team bench to retrieve another. The stick wasn’t coming soon enough and another player was about to get sent out on the ice when Marner passed the puck.
The Maple Leafs came very close to getting called with too many men.
Whelp, that’s awkward, indeed…
Come on, Marner, get it together. The Maple Leafs need a win amidst a struggling start to 2022-23, leading them to a 4-4-2 record before Wednesday’s action. Marner has registered two goals and nine points in 10 games thus far.
Good thing for Marner that the Maple Leafs lead 2-1 after the first period. And he collected an assist on Auston Matthews' power play goal. Phew!
