Price of beer shocks Canadiens’ fans in Montreal!

It’s just going up all around the league and fans are right to react!

It is the preseason. Fans across the NHL are dying to see some live hockey and some of us - with the inflation driving us mad - will look to get some live action for cheaper price, especially when it comes to tickets.

However, don’t expect to save money on concessions, especially if you’re in Montreal. On Monday night, some local fans attended the preseason game between the Canadiens and New Jersey Devils, only to find out that the Bell Center had jacked up the prices on beer and alcoholic beverages. Fans started posting in French on social media (one example below) that last season, a beer would cost around $13 and is now $16,50. I get that it’s Canadian dollars, but that’s a lot of money to get a cold drink during a hockey game - that does not even showcase the season lineup!

Fans made jokes like the owner should make friends with some brewers, because well George Molson is a beermaker who charges way too much for his own beer! However, one vendor contacted 98,5 FM on Wednesday morning to explain that the 13$ price tag was on the 14oz beer, which is now 13.25$ and the price of 16$ is for a much bigger can, the 25oz format. That makes more sense, but remains a lot of money if you're thirsty...

Several fans attended the game, and we all know that the Habs won’t struggle to fill the Bell Center this season. It’s however frustrating to see that their comments and criticism of the prices of food and beer won’t change a damn thing.

How pricey is the beer in your local arena?
