If you closely follow the day to day of the National Hockey League you will inevitably hear all kinds of trade rumors from around the league. Insiders are often dropping morsels of information that hint at potential deals in the making, but generally speaking those predictions do not often tend to be very specific in their nature. Sure you might hear about a certain player being traded and may even hear what teams are reportedly interested, but it is rare that we see NHL insiders make predictions as specific as the following one.

In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun made an extremely specific prediction about a trade he believes could be coming down in the few short days that remain before the 2020 NHL trade deadline. The prediction would see a deadline deal go down between the Calgary Flames, a playoff contender, and the Los Angeles Kings, a team that has long since given up on the playoffs, and unsurprisingly it is a deal that would make a lot of sense. LeBrun would see veteran forward Tyler Toffoli traded to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a package that would include Flames prospect Adam Ruzicka as well as a second round pick at this year's upcoming draft and a conditional fourth round pick for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. LeBrun would have the Kings holding on to 30% of Toffoli's current salary, a cap hit of $4.6 million.

From LeBrun:

I just don’t think the Kings will be able to drum up a first-round pick for Toffoli. He would fill a need rather perfectly for the Flames, who created cap space last month by trading away Michael Frolik, and have been looking for a right-shot, top-6 winger. Toffoli, who was OHL linemates with Flames centre Sean Monahan, has always made the most sense to me...

It would be something of a gamble for Flames general manager Brad Treliving given that the Flames are not a lock to make the playoffs this season. That being said however Toffoli has continued to produce this season in spite of the Kings' troubles and if the plan is to make the postseason then adding Toffoli could help push you over the hump in the final games of the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season.
