Patrick Kane has become the focus on attention amidst trade chatter this summer. That’s because so much has changed in Chicago that the star forward has to wonder about his future with the Blackhawks. Kane has been linked to the Oilers despite some insiders believing it would be a wrong call for Edmonton. However, the rumours prompted The Edmonton Journal’s Kurt Leavins to discuss what it might cost the Oilers to acquire Kane.
Leavins believes the Oilers would have to part with a player, a first-round pick, a top prospect, and more. His colleague David Staples gave his suggestion based on what Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer proposed which is parting with Jesse Puljujarvi or Warren Foegle along with a first-rounder and some prospects.
These aren’t the only proposed trade for Kane: Matt Porter of the Boston Bruins believes the Oilers might have to give up a package of Kailer Yamamoto and Tyson Barrie plus a first-rounder and a prospect, while Oilers Nation’s Jason Gregor wondered if Puljujarvi plus a first and a second-rounder would be enough to acquire Kane from Chicago.
If a trade takes place between the Oilers and the Hawks, Chicago would also need to absorb at least half of Kane’s salary… A three way trade might be the answer as Gregor points out with potentially the Arizona Coyotes getting in the mix.
Kane’s no-movement clause also complicates things: does he want to move to Edmonton? Not only as the star player remained quiet on any indication that he wants to be traded, but he has not been approached by the Blackhawks to consider a move. However, no one could blame him from wanting to play alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for a long playoff run, though he could prefer to join an American-based Stanley Cup contender.
The proposed trade offers are interesting… but it remains to be see first and foremost if Kane is interested in moving.
