Keystone Press

Edmonton Oilers prospects Kailer Yamamoto and Tyler Benson are both having great season so far in the WHL, and Oilers management team must certainly be really pleased with how they have played so far this year!

Yamamoto has scored two goals and added ten assists for 12 total points in 13 games played so far with the Spokane Chiefs (WHL). He started the season with the Oilers, registering three assists in nine games, before being returned to his junior team on November sixth. In 215 games played in the WHL, the 19-year old forward scored 89 goals and added 160 assists for 249 total points (regular season and playoffs included). The Oilers drafted him 22nd overall in 2017, and are placing high hopes on the American forward, who will do everything he can to stay in the NHL for the entire season next year. Yamamoto played with Team USA in the last World Junior Championship, registering four points in six games, helping his team to win the bronze medal.

Tyler Benson, 19, was drafted 32nd by the Oilers in 2016. The Edmonton, Alberta native has 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points in 31 games played so far this season with the Vancouver Giants (WHL). In 163 games played in the WHL so far, Benson has 51 goals and 105 assists for 156 points. He'll turn 20 in March, so he could play his first professional season next year, if he convinces Oilers management he's ready to take his game to the next level.
