Ouch.

Being an official in a high paced sport like hockey comes with its fair share of danger, and National Hockey League linesman Kilian McNamara unfortunately provided an example of that on Friday night.

McNamara was a linesman for the game contested between the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers on Friday night, and in the closing moments of the game's second period McNamara found himself much more involved in the proceedings than he would have liked.

McNamara was injured when a clearing attempt from Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell went awry. Instead of sending the puck down along the boards, the puck would get away from Lundell and would instead go directly at McNamara. The linesman unfortunately didn't have enough time to react, and although he tried to get out of the way the puck would strike him directly in the groin area.

To the surprise of no one, McNamara was slow to get up after this and there was even a delay in the game itself as the linesman struggled to recover. Much to his credit though, he would remain in the game and finish up the third period in spite of the rather unfortunate injury.
