PWHL leadership admits that relocation is possible for Canadian team

After only two seasons?!

Last week the city of Ottawa approved a $419 million redevelopment plan of the aging TD Place Arena in Lansdowne Park.

The arena is currently shared by the OHL's Ottawa 67's and the PWHL's Ottawa Charge, but it appears that the Charge aren't on board with the changes. Arena capacity is expected to be reduced by roughly 3,000 seats and that's simply not acceptable says the PWHL.

"We will not play in a 5,500-seat building,” PWHL VP Amy Scheer told reporters earlier today. "We will not play at Lansdowne 2.0 … That's the one option not on the table.”

The Charge averaged 5,775 fans for weekday games and 8,348 fans for weekend games this past season.

Scheer admitted that if a solution can't be found, then the team may have to consider relocation.

"We chose Ottawa for a reason and the fans have been wonderfully supportive of us there and we'd like to find a solution that works for us to stay in Ottawa," she said.

"But the city hasn't made it easy for us and it's disappointing."

For what it's worth, the 67's are expected to remain tenants in the building. Last season the 67's averaged 4,688 fans per game.
