Quick might not report to Jackets; GM Kekalainen doesn’t even know what’s going on!

What is going on?!

We knew that goalie Jonathan Quick was upset about the trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Kings to the Columbus Blue as part of a deal for defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, but I don’t know we imagined he was this mad.

According to Kings insider Dennis Bernstrein, Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has been in touch with Quick, but still provided the very vague update: ”we’ll see what happens.”

As Bernstein points out, Quick never definitively said he will report to Jackets.

We can all agree that Quick should have ended his career in Los Angeles and the way the trade was done feels wrong for the 37-year-old netminder.

However, it doesn’t feel right either to let the Blue Jackets down after the transaction…

The 37-year-old goalie backstopped the Kings to two Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014. He earned the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP in 2012 and is a two-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy (2014, 2018).

He did not deserve to be traded this way, though one could say the Blue Jackets do not deserve to be ignored after sending two star players to LA.
