The Canucks continue to reap the rewards of the Quinn Hughes trade.
If the Vancouver Canucks were looking for a way to help smooth over the difficult reality of the Quinn Hughes trade, they could not have written a better script.
On Saturday night the Canucks faced off against bitter rivals the Boston Bruins in what was a hotly contested game, one that would require both overtime and a shootout to eventually determine a winner. The Canucks however would never have even made it to overtime had it not been for an unlikely hero in tonight's game.
Acquired in the Quinn Hughes trade, former first round pick Liam Ohgren had gone scoreless in 18 games with the Minnesota Wild this season, but on Saturday night he broke his goalless drought at the most opportune time for the Canucks. Just a little over 7 minutes into the game's third period, Ohgren would beat Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman to give his team a 4-3 lead.
That would prove pivotal as the Bruins would eventually tie it up and force overtime. Overtime would settle nothing however and with both Swayman and Canucks goaltender Kevin Lankinen standing tall through the first six rounds of the shootout, it would once again be Ohgren who played hero.
Newly acquired Canucks defenseman Zeev Buium has already been turning heads in Vancouver since the trade and it would seem that tonight was Ohgren's coming out party in that regard. The Canucks are now 4-0 since the trade and while that is a small sample size, it certainly is making the transition a lot more palatable.
