NHL insider drops a big update on rumored Rasmus Andersson trade.
The rumored trade involving Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson may be coming to a head with reportedly only a small number of teams still in the mix.
On Saturday morning, National Hockey League insider Darren Dreger revealed that only four teams remain in the hunt for Andersson with Dreger revealing the names of two of those four teams.
From Dreger:
Things can develop quickly. However, sources say 4 teams remain in the mix for Flames Dman, Rasmus Andersson. Two teams in the east and two in the west. Boston and Vegas are strong contenders. Unless there’s progress, there’s a decent chance Andersson plays today for Cgy.
It comes as no surprise to see the Boston Bruins on the short list given that the Bruins have been tied to the Andersson rumors for some time, with some reports even prematurely suggesting that the Bruins had made the trade. The Vegas Golden Knights have been in a similar position with talks of a potential Andersson trade to Vegas having floated around since even prior to the start of the 2025-26 season, although no deal has materialized as of yet.
Andersson is having himself a solid season with 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in just 47 games, nearly matching his point total of 31 points over 81 games last season. What teams appreciate about Andersson the most however is the gritty style of play that he brings to the table, with Andersson considered a solid minute munching net-front type of defenseman.
The amount of competition for the player however could lead to one team or another overpaying to acquire him, no doubt a big part of the reason the Flames are holding out for the best possible deal before pulling the trigger.
