Rangers And Flames Both Lose A Player On Waivers.

Teams around the National Hockey League are having to make tough roster decisions as the regular season draws near and unfortunately for the Calgary Flames and New York Rangers, their decisions came at a price on Saturday.

Nhl insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news that the Flames had lost veteran defenseman Andreas Englund on waivers after the Red Wings submitted a claim for the 30 year old defenseman. The Red Wings still have somehow yet to sign restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson and you have to wonder if this isn't a little bit of extra depth in the event that Edvinsson doesn't start the season on the ice with the Red Wings.

Either way the former 2nd round pick and veteran of 200 NHL games is now headed to Detroit.

The Flames weren't the only team snakebitten however with the Rangers also losing a defenseman, this time former Montreal Canadiens fourth round pick William Trudeau. The Rangers actually just acquired Trudeau earlier this summer in a trade that sent forward Brett Berard to Montreal, and now lose him for nothing.

It will be the Nashville Predators who reap the rewards of a waiver claim this time, and with so many teams showing a measure of interest in the 23 year old defenseman you have to wonder if he may get a chance to appear in his first NHL game this season.
