It’s been known for a few months now that one of the teams that has been considered to be among the frontrunners in the Patrick Kane sweepstakes is the New York Rangers. To their fans’s delight, Kane was asked earlier this week how he would feel about a reunion with former teammate Artemi Panarin. To no one’s surprise Kane admitted that he would welcome such a reunion with his close friend.

“I mean, obviously, it’d be fun to play with Panarin again,” said Kane, per Scott Powers.

However, Mollie Walker of the New York Post believes the Rangers must improve their recent play and become a postseason contender to convince him to waive his no-movement clause to join them before the March 3 trade deadline.

She’s right. As of now, the Rangers aren’t making a great sale pitch the Kane. Sure, they reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season but are currently struggling for a wild-card berth.

Walker pointed out how the Rangers have two first-round picks in the 2023 draft, but did mentioned how unlikely New York would part with top prospect Brennan Othmann.

But the reporter did make it clear on what the Rangers need to focus on: “The Rangers still have time to make themselves an intriguing landing spot for Kane, but it has to start now.”
