Multiple Rangers call out the NHL's referees on Sunday night.
The New York Rangers are not happy.
On Sunday night, the Rangers clashed with the Vegas Golden Knights in a game that they would eventually lose by a score of 4-3, but after it was all said and done it was clear that the Rangers as a whole felt they had been cheated by the poor officiating on the ice.
Multiple members of the Rangers spoke to the media after the game and expressed their displeasure at how the game was called, including veteran Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad who made it clear he was furious over a non-call in overtime. With a little over 4 minutes left in overtime Rangers rookie defenseman Matthew Robertson was tripped in the neutral zone by Mitch Marner in rather blatant fashion, but there was no call on the play despite the official being in position to see it all happen.
"Really? Zero power plays and you don’t call that?" said Zibanejad after the game.
Here is a short clip of the trip in question:
Zibanejad wasn't the only one who was hot after the game however and the tripping call in overtime wasn't the only call the Rangers felt like they had been cheated on either. Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan was furious about a roughing call against Will Borgen late in the third period, and when he was asked if he was frustrated with the officiating, Sullivan didn't shy away from the question.
"What gave it away," said the clearly frustrated head coach.
When asked if he had received an explanation regarding the call on Borgen, Sullivan made it clear that he had not.
"No," said Sullivan flatly.
Sullivan expressed that he felt his team had put out an effort that was worthy of a win on Sunday night, with the clear implication being that his team had been robbed of that win by factors outside of their control.
You can hear Sullivan's comments on the matter in the short clip below:
