On Wednesday night, rookie Gabe Perreault made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in the heat of the tight playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

The Blue Shirts need to get back in line for the last Wild Card spot in the East after both the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets racked up each two points on Tuesday evening.

Perreault suited up and had his rookie lap at Madison Square Garden in front of his former Boston College teammates.

And then, he had a rough first period. While his teammate Braden Schneider had managed to tie things up at 1 for New York, Perreault accidentally caused the Wild to get the lead back.

Upon review, it was showed to the entire fanbase at MSG and on social media how Perreault accidentally tipped that Faber shot past goalie Igor Shesterkin on the go-ahead goal.

As team insider Vincent Z. Mercogliano puts it, I don’t think the rookie will be keeping that puck…

That’s just an unfortunate deflection for the rookie, who will look to get his REAL first goal in the NHL as the Rangers keep fighting for wins in the heated playoff race.

For now though, Perreault is unfortunately trending for his unfortunate tip on a Wild goal.
