Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin sidelined by injury.
The New York Rangers have called up a goaltender and insiders are reporting Shesterkin is injured.
The New York Rangers appear to be signalling that one of their goalies is dealing with an injury and insiders are confirming as much on Sunday night.
Just moments ago the Rangers called up 3 players from the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolfpack, forward Jonny Brodzinski, defenseman Connor Mackey and goaltender Louis Domingue. That would leave the Rangers with 3 goaltenders with goaltenders Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick on the main roster, but Rangers insider Mollie Walker is reporting that there has been an injury.
Thankfully, according to Walker, this is a relatively minor injury with Shesterkin currently day to day while dealing with some soreness. The call up of Domingue is interesting though given that the Rangers don't have a game until Tuesday, perhaps an indication that Shesterkin will need some extra rest as he recovers from whatever it is that is currently ailing him.
Shesterkin has been solid for the Rangers this season with a 2.36 goals against average and a .913 save percentage over his 8 appearances.
