Rangers hesitate to pull this monster trade ahead of the deadline...

To trade or not to trade. That’s not only the question in New York as a bigger inquiry lands on the Rangers. According to Arthur Staples of The Athletic, general manager Chris Drury is pondering whether to make a big-ticket acquisition or a couple of smaller ones, which means that all the chatter on the Blue Shirts going after Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane might be forgotten.

While Staples points out Kane, St. Louis Blues’ Ryan O’Reilly and Vancouver Canucks’ Bo Horvat as the big-ticket players for a huge boost up front, he notes how Drury could instead look at bolstering the left side of his third defense pairing with a rental player. Therefore, the insider mentions the Anaheim Ducks’ Nathan Beaulieu or Dmitry Kulikov as well as the Philadelphia Flyers’ Justin Braun.

It will all come down to what Drury can pull off closer to the March 3rd trade deadline seeing that much will depend on whether Kane wants to be traded, how healthy O’Reilly is and how much the Canucks demand for Horvat if they don’t re-sign him…

While it would be something of a letdown if Kane isn’t traded to the Rangers given the months of speculation linking him to the Big Apple, Drury could still get some top acquisitions if not at the deadline, well during the offseason in the trade and free-agent markets.

Teams across the NHL are waiting to see what happens with Kane and other coveted players as the trade deadline nears.

Patience is a virtue and we will see how it impact the Rangers’ trade plan in early March.
