There might be a pause taking place in the National Hockey League due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still plenty of work to be done by the Department of Player’s Safety.

On Friday, it was announced that New York Rangers forward Brendan Lemieux will be suspended for his hit on Joonas Donskoi Wednesday night. The precise parameters of the suspension will be determined and announced once resumption of play guidelines have been established.

The hearing took place this morning after Lemieux collided with Donskoi after the Avalanche player took a shot on net, appearing to impact his head in the process.

Lemieux was given a minor penalty for interference on the play and has been suspended for an illegal check to the head in the past.

Obviously it’s not clear how a suspension would play out given the uncertainty around the rest of the season, but we now know Lemieux will have to serve it at some point.
