On Friday evening, the New York Post found out that the Rangers signed forward Conor Sheary to a professional tryout.
Sheary is looking to compete for a role this upcoming season and will get a chance under one of his former head coaches, Mike Sullivan, who got to work with him in Pittsburgh. That’s where with the Penguins, Sheary won back to back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017.
After spending most of the 2024-25 campaign with the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, the 33-year-old forward is hoping to crack the Rangers’ main roster, returning to the NHL.
Last month, right before the opening of free agency, the Lightning placed Sheary on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. It therefore allowed the Rangers to offer him a PTO ahead of the team’s training camp. He had one year left on his three-year contract and was due to make $2 million next season. He had signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent two years ago and finished with four goals and 15 points in a total of 62 games with the Lightning.
Sheary will be competing hard to earn a spot on the Rangers’ roster for the 2025-26 season.
