It sounds like New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider is now off the trade board and it sounds like it will come in a very unexpected fashion.

Everyone and their mother expected that Kreider would be traded on Monday after both he and the Rangers failed to come to terms on a contract extension in the weeks and days leading up to the trade deadline. It seems like as things came down to the wire however the two sides managed to get together and work out a new deal, although at this time we do not know the details of that contract.

According to a report from Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic, the Rangers have in fact gotten the deal done at the last possible minute. There's no doubt that this one is official either as Carpiniello's source for the information is none other than New York Rangers team president John Davidson

Update: According to TSN National Hockey League insider Bob McKenzie the deal will be a 7 year contract that will pay Kreider an average annual value of $6.5 million per season.
