This just in, the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes have pulled off a rare post-trade deadline trade, swapping forward Jack Dugan and defenseman Zackary Hayes.
Check it out:
It's worth noting that while the NHL allows trades past the deadline, that players acquired in a post-deadline trade are NOT eligible to play NHL games for the team that acquires them this season. That's why in cases like these we usually see prospects or minor-leaguers swapped post-deadline.
No offense to Dugan and Hayes, but this looks to be a classic case of teams swapping minor league players. Both guys have played the entire season in the AHL and Hayes has just 3 NHL games on his resume.
