Rasmus Andersson has finally been traded.
In a shocking turn of events, Rasmus Andersson will not be a Boston Bruin.
Despite reports earlier this week that indicated that Andersson would be traded to the Bruins, on Sunday the trade finally became official and it is a trade not to Boston but to Las Vegas. Rasmus Andersson is the newest member of the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Flames will be retaining 50 percent of Andersson's salary in this deal and in exchange are receiving Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud, a first round draft pick at the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, a conditional second round pick and Golden Knights prospect Abram Weibe.
The condition on the second round pick causes it to become a first round pick in the event the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman is the first to report the full details of the trade:
NHL insider Darren Dreger was the first to report the trade:
Andersson is a gritty defenseman whose physical style was clearly in demand from a number of playoff contenders. Over his 584 game career he has recorded 57 goals and 204 assists for 261 career points and was having himself another strong season for the Calgary Flames. In 48 games this season Andersson has 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points, and that is before we even begin to talk about the more physical aspects of his game.
