Rasmus Andersson takes a shot at the Calgary Flames just days after the trade.
For what feels like over a year there were rumors surrounding the future of Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson and, given Andersson's most recent comments, it sounds like there was never any real hope of the player remaining in Calgary.
On Friday night, Andersson and his new team, the Vegas Golden Knights, faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, which meant that many members of the Canadian hockey media were in attendance. It was no surprise then that Andersson was asked about the recent change of scenery following the trade to Vegas, but what was surprising was Andersson seemingly taking a shot at his former team with his answer.
Andersson began his comments by praising the City of Calgary and the Flames organization, but quickly made it clear he didn't feel the team was on the same level as the Golden Knights.
"I've had a great time in Calgary, I've loved every second of it," began Andersson. "I can't say good enough things about that organization. But at the same time I think it was time for them and it was time for me to try something different. ... This is a real contender."
Although Andersson likely won't be winning many hearts in Calgary with those comments, fans in that city will continue to cheer for him throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs. One of the picks acquired by the Flames in the trade will become a 1st round pick at the 2028 NHL Entry Draft should the Golden Knights, and Andersson, win the Stanley Cup and the Flames fan base will be much more concerned with that pick than any recent comments from Anderson.
