The RCMP are on the lookout for a former NHL enforcer.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police based in Maple Ridge, British Columbia have issued a warning to the public to be on the lookout for a former National Hockey League enforcer.
In a social media post this week, Maple Ridge RCMP announced that former NHL enforcer Link Gaetz is facing multiple charges that stem from an alleged assault on a taxi cab driver. Although no details about the alleged incident were provided, it does appear as though law enforcement has obtained some evidence in this case. Included with the official announcement were series of still photos that appear to show an agitated Gaetz in the back of a vehicle, gesturing towards the driver who cannot be seen on camera.
Gaetz had a long professional hockey career as an enforcer but spent just 65 games in total in the NHL, split between the Minnesota North Stars and the San Jose Sharks. In his most prolific season, Gaetz would rack up a staggering 326 penalty minutes in just 48 games during the 1991-92 season, a season he spent as a member of the Sharks.
Update: The RCMP have provided an update on the charges being faced by Gaetz. From their official statement:
Link Gaetz, 57 years old, from Mission, has now been charged with: Assault, Section 266 of the Criminal Code, and Mischief Under $5,000, Section 430 (4) of the Criminal Code.
The RCMP are currently on the lookout for Gaetz and have not brought him into custody. As a result they are asking the public for help locating the former NHL brawler.
