The Edmonton oilers have acquired G Cam Talbot on June 27th. Since that trade, Talbot has been assumed to be the starter for the Oilers this season. Everyone thought so, except... himself. According to nhl.com, Talbot his ready to earn his spot as the top goaltender for Edmonton.

"I hope I'm in the battle for the No. 1 job. Nothing is ever set in stone. I'm coming in here and I'm prepared to battle it out. Obviously Ben and Anders are really good goalies as well, so it's going to be a battle in the crease and I'm ready for the competition."

Ben Scrivens and Anders Nilsson are the other two goalies talbot will face in the competition for the #1 spot. Although Talbot has been in the backup set for the past two season, he did it behind one of the best goalie-goalie coach tandem in the world: Henrik Lundqvist and Benoit Allaire.

"Getting to play behind a guy like Henrik, you learn a lot and you get to see what it takes to be a No. 1 goalie in this League. I took away a lot from watching him and being able to work with Benoit Allaire in New York.

Although Talbot says so, there isn't really a battle for the starting job in edmonton. It is Talbot's to lose.
