Since before the conclusion of the Stanley Cup playoffs there has been a great deal of talk around the future of Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi. Rossi has somewhat inexplicably found himself on the trade market after what was his breakout season with the Wild, a season in which he recorded 24 goals and 36 assists, reaching the 60 point plateau for the first time in his National Hockey League career.

Rossi is just 23 years old and was drafted into the NHL by the Wild who selected him 9th overall at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, so why then would the Wild be eager to trade him away?

During a recent appearance on 102.5 The Game in Nashville, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shed some light into what may have gone wrong behind the scenes in Minnesota. According to Friedman, Rossi's camp may not have been thrilled with how the player was handled by head coach John Hynes during the latter parts of the season.

"He got put on the fourth line and one of the things I heard happened is they offered him a bridge deal this year," said Friedman. "His representatives said 'No offense, but no because you put him on the 4th line in the playoffs and that could affect our earning potential out of a bridge deal.'"

Not only did the Rossi camp feel that Hynes had potentially damaged Rossi's earning potential, but it sounds like the player himself wasn't happy with the move purely from a competitive standpoint.

"I think Rossi was bothered by that, I think he was upset by that.... these athlete's have enormous pride in themselves and I heard that really bothered him," revealed Friedman.

It sounds like Rossi's desire to play on a team where he is perhaps more respected could be a driving force behind this trade.

"I think he's in a situation where he wants to make sure he's somewhere where he's gonna play top line center," said Friedman.

If Rossi is set on making a move out of Minnesota, it could prove challenging for general manager Bill Guerin to get full value back in a trade.
