Trade chatter has picked on Arizona Coyotes’ Jakob Chychrun ever since he made his season debut last month. Teams are now able to see how he performs, as he has returned from a season-ending ankle injury he suffered back in March and underwent wrist surgery in the offseason.

There have been reports that the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and Columbus Blue Jackets were interested in Chychrun ahead of the season, and could take a closer look at the blue liner now that he’s back. And more teams could be added to the mix!

Darren Dreger explained why on Tuesday night’s Insider Trading on TSN how there is more buzz around Chychrun:

“It seems like it’s picking up and there’s a couple of reasons to consider for that. Obviously we’re at a point in the regular season where the pressure on general managers and on owners have progressed.

"So, they’re feeling the heat, in other words.

"Then you have to push that aside and look at the game of Chychrun. Since he’s returned he’s played seven games and has three goals and three assists, he’s a big man and he’s got a bomb for a shot.

"I still think there’s apprehension among clubs with the most interest to pay the price that Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong is looking for, but I think there’s also a group of teams that are getting to a point that they realize they may have to.”

Since his return on November 21st, Chychrun has collected three goals and six points in seven games. He recorded 21 points in 47 games last season, and he collected 18 goals and 23 assists in 56 contests the year prior, finishing 10th in Norris Trophy voting.

While a new buzz emerges, the fact remains that GM Bill Armstrong’s asking price could discouraged interested teams. Armstrong is rumoured to be asking for two first-round picks plus either a prospect or a young NHL player in a monster trade for Chychrun.

Chychrun is under contract through 2024-25 at $4.6 million annually.
